Using The Internet To Learn About Bike Repair And Maintenance

As a youngster I had a real interest in bikes and getting fit and I used to take part in lots of Mountain Biking with my friend Dave in the Lake District.  We would go away camping for the weekend with Dave’s mum and dad and we would ride all day whilst they enjoyed their own holiday.  It soon occurred to me that we needed to find different trails to ride and also how to carry out routine maintenance on our bikes and although we bought all the regular weekly Mountain Bike magazines, our main source of information came from the internet which at that time we could only access from school at our after school club or at a really slow terminal at the local library.

Getting access to the internet proved to be very beneficial to our early years as bike enthusiasts as it gave us so much knowledge to help and empower ourselves.  For example, I had never heard of a bike repair stand before I saw it on the world wide web and it is the one tool that really has made my life so much easier.  In fact, without one of these stands, Dave and I would probably have not been friends for much longer as we would always argue over who would be holding the bike for who first whilst we carried out our repairs!

That leads me to where I am today.  If it had not been for the internet I would now not have my own business in bicycle repair!  I had the enthusiasm but it was the internet that provided me with the information I needed t grow.  For that, I will always be grateful.
